What is coaching?
Coaching is a professional partnership between a qualified coach and an
individual or group that supports the achievement of maximum results, based
on the goals set by the individual or group.  Coaching focuses on where
individuals are now and what they are willing to do to get where they want to
be.  Proper coaching concentrates on developing the needed skills and a
plan of action that will produce successful results.

Why might I work with a coach?

More than ever before, people are open to the idea of taking charge of their
own lives and coaching helps them do just that by focusing on what matters
to them most.  Coaching helps people improve their performance and
enhance the quality of their lives.

What does the coaching process look like?
Coaching usually begins with an intake session (in person or by phone) to
discuss your current situation as it relates to your goals.  This session will
reveal priorities for action and establish specific desired outcomes.  Later
sessions are conducted by phone for a previously agreed upon length of
time.  Between coaching sessions, you may be asked to complete
assignments that support the achievement of your personally prioritized
goals.  You may be provided additional resources in the form of relevant
articles, checklists or assessments to enhance your thinking and actions.

How long would I work with a coach?
The length of time can vary depending on the individual and the situation.  
Ideally, one should begin with a minimum of three sessions.  Working with a
coach is a personal decision and the time frame is determined by the
agreement of the coach and the individual.  Coaching can range from a few
months up to a year based on the goals and the comfort level of the client
and coach.

How is coaching different from counseling and therapy?
Counselors usually deal in fixing past issues whereas coaches look toward
future growth.  Counselors can be seen as 'Archaeologists' whereas
coaches can be seen as 'Architects'.

Therapists work with clients that need help in the area of healing and
recovery whereas coaches work with clients who are of sound mind and want
an objective viewpoint to help them evolve and enhance their lives.

How is coaching different from consulting?
Consultants advise clients on how to solve problems by giving their clients
answers.  Coaches guide their clients to their own solutions through multi-level
listening and asking powerful questions.  With masterful coaching, coaches
can lead their clients to find the answers they seek within themselves.

What is my role as client?
As a client you will have to set the agenda in deciding what you want to gain
from each session, you will have to make a personal commitment to making
positive change, you will have to challenge your current beliefs and behaviors
and possibly develop new ones that better support your goals, you will have to
do the work that is required to make progress, you will have to accept
responsibility for the outcome and you will have to gather courage to reach for
more than before, to shift from being fear-based to taking decisive action as a
strategy for success.

What can I expect from my life coach?
Your life coach will hold the bar high for you and help lead you to be
accountable for yourself, will challenge your ideas and beliefs and keep you
moving in a progressive manner - toward your goals and what you want, will
listen to you express your ideas and obstacles without judgment or criticism,
will ask powerful questions intended to clarify your agenda and where your
next steps should take you, will encourage, support and motivate you in
reaching your highest potential.
